Kiinan ja Yhdysvaltojen suhde on ollut täynnä vastoinkäymisiä. Näyttää kuitenkin siltä, että aivan viimeisimmät tapahtumat ovat vain lisänneet ongelmia suhteeseen. Tuleeko Kiinan ja Yhdysvaltojen suhde ikinä tasoittumaan?

Yksi suurimmista pulmista kahdenvälisissä suhteissa on USA:n päätös myydä aseita Taiwaniin. Varaulkoministeri He Yafei sanoi CRI:n julkaisemassa lausunnossa, että kauppa “edustaa puuttumista Kiinan sisäisiin asioihin.” Washington Postin mukaan Kiina on protestiksi jäädyttänyt sotilaallisia suhteita ja asettanut pakotteita Yhdysvaltalaisille yrityksille, jotka ovat osallistuneet kauppaan. Yhdysvaltojen ilmavoimien varaministeri Bruce Lemkin sanoi kanadalaiselle uutistoimistolle, että hänen mielestään Kiina ylireagoi asiaan.

Toinen ongelma on syntynyt presidentti Barack Obaman suunnitellusta tapaamisesta Dalai Laman kanssa. CNN mukaan Kiinan ylempi puoluejohtaja sanoi, että tapaaminen ei ainoastaan heikennä kahdenvälisiä suhteita, vaan sen seurauksena Kiina aikoo osoittaa “asianomaisille valtioille heidän tekemänsä virheet”.

Kun kaksi maailman suurinta valtioita keinottelevat paikastaan maailman politiikan huipulle, on luvassa varmasti jännitteitä. Löytävätkö Kiina ja Yhdysvallat ratkaisun näissä asioissa vai tuleeko heidän suhteensa aina olemaan solmussa?
